2011 Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC Review |
|
Apr 19, 2011 - 5:23 PM - by administrator
|
It's a sunny morning in Valencia, and I'm at the Ricardo Tormo circuit sipping a coffee whilst listening to 20 roaring V4-powered Tuonos being warmed up in the pit lane. One of them is mine, all mine, for the day with a dedicated mechanic – I'm being treated like a MotoGP star.
I start my first session with the traction control set at level six and then reduce by one for each lap until I'm down at level one. The Aprilia 2011 Tuono V4R is a bit of a shock to the system as it just pulls like an angry bull everywhere and stops as if a freight train suddenly started pulling it in reverse. When I've finished my second 20-minute session I'm experiencing arm pump and a threatening cramp in my left leg each time I brake hard. My mechanic made some rear-suspension adjustments which changed the bike a lot and made my hard riding much easier. ... [Read More]

2011 Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC SE Review |
|
Nov 29, 2010 - 11:59 AM - by administrator

The term high tech has never had a more suitable subject to describe outside of NASA than the Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC SE. Traction control, launch control, wheelie control, triple ride-by-wire riding modes, quick shifter, and its even got blinkers incorporated into its mirrors! The RSV4 Factory APRC is what legends are made of.
Aprilia, by offering the APRC technology to a mainstream audience, has the recipe to shatter everything that stands in its way in 2011. You've got to love Aprilia's attitude of daring to fail to succeed.
It takes guts to bring along a bike such as the RS3 Cube MotoGP bike using ride-by-wire as the first manufacturer to do so in MotoGP. It failed; Aprilia packed up its GP ambitions, rebooted its computers and came back stronger than ever in World Superbike with the RSV4... [Read More]

2011 Aprilia Shiver 750 Review |
|
Oct 20, 2010 - 10:31 AM - by administrator

Have you ever found yourself not so impressed with someone after a brief introduction? Like, say, the proverbial mousy, slightly overweight girlfriend that a lot of hot chicks keep around as sidekicks.
A chance meeting a couple years after the first encounter reveals the sidekick girl dresses sexier now, has slimmed down some and is more fun than you initially gave her credit for. And you're grateful she's given you another chance.
That's the context in which I've put the Aprilia Shiver 750.
When first I rode the SL750 two years ago I liked it enough, I guess. I couldn't deny the Shiver's friendly rider ergos or its array of technology, like three-mode rider-selectable engine mapping and throttle-by-wire. Yet, however practical the Shiver was, it simply didn't turn me on.
I... [Read More]

Now in its second year, our MOBO awards selections process gives us the chance to reflect on the year that was. And for 2010, the spotlights were generally shining on European manufacturers which continued to pump out desirable product while most Japanese OEMs crawled into a hole to wait out the near-global recession.
Brands like Aprilia, BMW, Ducati and Triumph haven't slowed the launching of new models, and this forging ahead in the midst of a storm has resulted in gains of market share. It's also provided us with several interesting new bikes to ride. Perhaps most interesting of all are the bikes in the paradigm-shifting electric motorcycle movement that's rapidly gathering momentum. Progress in this category will come quickly as new technology takes great leaps forward.
Although the two-wheel market isn't what... [Read More]

2012 Yamaha Zuma 125 Review
If riding a small-bore scooter leaves you feeling emasculated, consider the Yamaha Zuma 125: rugged, aggressive styling (especially in black), fat, semi-knobby tires and power enough to shoot its rider across an intersection faster than the average car.
