Default Aprilia Dealer News!

The Piaggio Group has earmarked Aprilia to represent the group's five-brand portfolio in the medium- and top-end of the high-performance motorcycle market.

The Piaggio Group controls the Piaggio, Vespa, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi and Gilera brands.

Piaggio's plan is to use put some serious funding behind Aprilia, allowing the company to ramp up its on-road and off-road product offerings, and then to create excitement for that product through increased participation in on-road and off-road competition.

Aprilia introduced the 450cc SXV and RXV at EICMA 2005, and the SL 750 Shiver and 850cc Mana at EICMA 2006. This year the company revealed four bikes: the SMV 750 Dorsoduro, RX 125, SX 125 and the concept FV2 1200.

I've watched the news about Aprilia for awhile now. The Piaggio Group does indeed seem serious about building great bikes and hopefully with them, a supporting infrastructure. With the acquisition of Moto Guzzi, most bike categories are covered. Obviously, Aprilia is the sports bike arm. I can hardly wait to see if the United States embraces the marque. Gilera has the potential to steal the retro market. I'd like nothing better than something to ride that looked as if it came from the 1950s but had modern mechanicals and electrics. Of course, that means dumping the scooter line.
