Default RS50 For My Son.. Help Needed

My son, who is about to turn 16 has his eyes and heart set on the RS50. Would anyone be able to tell me any problems with these bikes, and what i should look out for when buying? I would be spending around £800-£1000 on the bike. Also what would the insurance be like? Also what usually goes wrong with them and how much to get fixed?? And whats the fuel like?

hello hitchen92 i have been ridind an aprilia rs 50 since july, maintanance has been a bit steep bearing in mind mine has been battered and has been written off befor i bought it, the engine has been very good and reliable it reached 37000 miles before needing a topend rebuild, have not had problems since with the engine. if you spend that amount of money on one other maintanance that i have needed to do will niot be neccesarry, i payed £200 for mine as i couldnt afford anything else. I pay £220 a year for insurance tpo with motorcycle direct (cheapest i could find), They are suprisingly efficeant bikes, with normall usage about 60 mpg , that is using high revs as it is only a 50, they are great fun little bikes hope you get a good one glad to see your son hasnt gone for a rev n go good luck

Hey hitchen92 just some running tips with the bike make sure your using the proper set-ups like the underseat sticker on my bike says use a 9 spark plug but the bike runs better on an 8, also make sure because it's a 2 stroke warm the engine up before use, and dont rev over 7000 untill you have rode for around 3 miles each run, also only use super unleaded, i recommend Shell V-Max as that's 98 octance apposed to BP's 97 Octane, make sure your carb air mixture screw doesnt go above 1.5 turns out i have found, hope i could help
