Default RX50 / SX50 Fork Tube, Fork Seal and Frame / Engine Case Protection

Fork Tube Gaiters:

Manufacturers only roll bikes off the production line w/o fork gaiters for 1 reason: "because a shiny finish looks good" Without fork gaiters' fork tube finishes are prone to premature surface corrosion and pitting from roost, fork seals are made to suffer from the harsh grime that sticks to tubes and fork seals themselves. The Marzocchi and KYB tubes are 40mm in diameter' as you can see from the pic below, some 40 - 50mm gaiters are sized more like 50 - 60mm. Acerbis distribute neoprene gaiters which i can claim from my own experience fit nicely' unlike the typical ebay gaiter beside it...

Put the bike's frame rails on a stand with front wheel off the ground and cut the gaiters a little shorter to match the full extended travel length. Before fitting the gaiters' preserve the tubes by cleaning the finish with a metal polish like Solvol Autosol or anything available locally, and a rag with some elasticity to it. Use the same cleaning/polishing method in the video below...

Skid Plate:

I recommend this modification only for RX models - mostly ridden in tight technical off road situations @low rpm due to the typical high rpm vibe rattle and engine noise deflect towards the rider's ears with aluminium plates.

The side stand bracket is part of the frame and sits lower than the skid plate' and there is no sane reason to saw the thing off for gaining more ground clearance when off roading. This "skid" plate serves it's purpose more as a frame rail and engine case protector. Brake and carburetor cleaner doesn't effectively remove 100% of engine casing stains and preventing engine case paint from peeling off was another typical issue. TNT Tuning make this aluminium plate...

Unfortunately' it doesn't include that mounting hardware kit which would consist of 8x nuts and bolts with 4x claw shaped frame rail mounts. However' the frame rails don't show anywhere those kind of mount locations would fit unless bodging and drilling into the frame so a few cable ties are the only substitute. Cut some high density foam to shape and apply on the underside of the plate to reduce the near-unbearable rattle and engine noise deflect @high rpm.
