Is Shiver for me?
I am a 61-year-old first time cyclist looking to get a bike that will be forgiving while I learn but not so tame that I will outgrow it. I have looked at more brands and models than you can shake a stick at and the Shiver fits me the best. I am 6’2” and on most other bikes, my knees were above my hip joint. When this happens in a chair, my fanny goes to sleep. I have not ridden before but intuition tells me this is not a good thing on a motorcycle. In addition, I am a heavy rider—240—but in relatively good shape—Tae Kwan Do, fitness training.
The sales rep said that the Shiver, with the ride by wire feature, would be great to fill my needs since I could ride in rain mode for a week or two, step up to cruise mode (he doubted it would really take 2 weeks) and sooner or later have a blast using top performance mode.
I want a bike to have fun with and to commute, about 35 miles round trip. The fun idea came first and the commute idea got a big boost with current gas prices.
So, I would appreciate any comments, pro or con, about a Shiver actually fitting my needs. Please be honest. If the Shiver is not for me, Aprilia does not need a dissatisfied customer. On the other hand, I do not want to pass up a good ride if I have found it.
Your input is important to me and I will consider it carefully. Thanks to all of you who reply.
