Default Changing engine-throttle maps

Hi Shiver fans
is anyone familiar with the process for changing throttle-engine-maps, or response? I am under the impression one can change settings with a laptop and the correct cable, but surely one requires some custom software. Indeed does the bike have a USB connection?

I've not yet purchased a shiver but have been on several test rides and i'm very close. I'd like to know just how difficult it is to change the ride-by-wire settings. Not only for personal preference but i'm considering a custom exhaust system!

Thanks

You get one yet? Just throttle off, and hit the starter button twice (like a double click on the computer) presto next mode is engaged...

Don't think I would ever use the rain setting, as it is such a dog in that mode.

Cheers

Default engine maps

Thanks xr399
maybe i didn't make my question clear. I have heard that one can customise the engine map for each of the three settings (Sport, Touring, Rain). This means customising the response of the throttle actuator, timing and injection settings. Obviously one would need access to the onboard computer and be able to code the customised settings.

This is what i would like to be able to do. I have experience with engine mapping and throttle automation but one will also need the correct electronic connection plus (probably) some aprilia software (or hacked version).

If you hear of anything let me know.

Hi Kubs yeah guess I didn't consider all I read with my answer !! I have the same feeling as you, and unless I can find some way to get it to respond more like a carburated engine, I will have to sell it, and probably go back to a litre bike. For example the power delivery on Kawasaki's newer Ninga 650 parallel twins is more satisfying than the Aprilia.

I loved my VTR 1000 all it needed to be perfect was a little more upright riding position and possibly a little suspension upgrading.

The Multistrada DS1000 I had after that was not nearly as good a bike, poor ground clearance (center stand dragged way too soon, worse than my ST1100!! or Pan European if you are from over the pond) clanky clutch, and of course the ridiculously expensive maintenance every 10,000km.

I like most everything else on the Shiver, but would like as you mentioned want to have a different, preferably low mount MotoGP style exhaust, a hugger to keep the crap out of the shock and back of the engine, and a decent bug/wind deflector for longer trips. Hope someone comes out with some custom hard or hard/soft (like new Beemers) combo luggage too. If one had a low exhaust, and the company that did the panniers was sharp, they could supply new plastic at the back to replace the star wars bazookas back there, and tuck the luggage in even more....
I will keep checking the net, and if I spy any tuning equipment, will get right back on here with the links.

Cheers Tom (Canada)

Default Shiver mods

Hi xr399
I've not found the shiver's sport setting unsatisfying. I think it compares well with the other sports bikes i've ridden. Keep in mind the engine is not racing pedigree. I've come across people who squeezed out some more power by getting aftermarket pipes (acrapovic or leovinci) and removing catalytic converter. Sounded nicer too but quite costly, and ideally requires new engine maps for the new pipes.

Also, aprilia does sell customised tank bags and panniers. Not cheap of course. I bought the tank bag which looks nice and fits perfectly. There is a small windscreen too which only really works if you tuck right in behind.

good luck

Kubs
