Your factory antitheft system does not recognize the key. Any aftermarket or factory installed antitheft device other than what comes on the bike is not recommended. You must go into the diagnostic portion of you dashboard with the correct code to program the key. The factory default code for the dashboard is 00000. If the previous owner has changed that and you cannot get the code the only choice is to replace the dashboard with a new one as there are 99999 different choices. I would suggest trying a few very simple codes like 10000 or 00001 . Hope you are able to get the old code as a new dashboard is fairly expensive.

The code to enter the diagnostic portion of the dashboard is a different code from the personal user code. The code used by the owner of the bike is used in the rare case that both keys programmed to the bike are lost. When the new key is installed with the correct cut the ignition will turn but the bike will not start. The key has to be programmed into memory and the only way to do that is with the user specified password that is set by the owner.

Would it be the same procedure for a 2006 scarabeo 500? If so, with a cut transponder key and the user password, the bike will program new keys?

Thanks
Keith

Most of the Piaggio Vespa bikes have a seperate computer for the antitheft. Each bike comes with a master key which is then used to program future keys made for the bike. In the case of a lost master key replacing the antitheft computer is the only option that I am aware of. This part is not all that expensive compared to the Guzzi/Aprilia bikes. I think in the states it just over $100.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any more specifics on the bikes that an be reprogrammed with the "user code" and a new cut transponder blank? For example, models/years that this method would apply to?

I was under the impression that once all keys were lost on any Aprilia the ecu had to be replaed, is this not the case anymore?

Always buy a branded anti-theft system.
