2011 Aprilia Mana GT horn shuts down engine
I was out riding today (ambient 106 °F), and played with the horn. Many times I could get the engine to shut down, "GEAR" displayed on the dash along with the RED TROUBLE LIGHT. After a second or two the engine recovers and the bike comes back up in the mode it was in (touring, in my case).
The issue appears not to be correlated with speed, bike attitude, throttle position, or headlight load (high or low beam). This is a two month old bike ridden 50+ miles almost every day. No water exposure at all. The dash DOES NOT GO BLANK. It just displays the red trouble light and "GEAR" on the display.
Though I rarely use the horn, this is a safety issue and needs some attention from Aprilia. This apparently affects at least some Manas from years 2009-2011 based on this thread. Time to wake up, Aprilia.
From the Mana user's manual:
"In the case of alarms related to the transmission computer, the general alarm warning light will illuminate and the word GEAR will appear on the display."
This problem has been found in 2009 and 2010 models as well. Aprilia USA has been informed.
Any thoughts?
