Sportcity 250 - missing ignition key

I just picked up a crashed 2008 Aprilia Sportciity 250 at an auction and it is missing the ignition key. I called the local dealers parts department in Minneapolis and he is totally clueless….to put it nicely..

He said it might have a key with a transponder built in. Is this true? Is the ignition on this bike like a car with a special code thing built into the key or does it have a regular key like all my other motorcycles?

Can you get the S/N off the ignition and have a key made at the dealer from that information?

Or can I maybe just buy a new ignition from Aprilia and install that if there is no transponder gadget?
