There is no such thing as a V4 engine. In I4, the I stands for "inline". Basically, all 4 cylinders are in a straight line.

When you use more than 4 cylinders, such as 6 or 8, vibrations may result. Thus, in a V6 or V8, the cylinders form a V-shape. This is to reduce the vibration of the engine since the cylinders are fired in a certain way.

Putting 4 cylinders into a v-shape would not have any benefit at all. Thus, a V4 does not exist.

Hey Jack2012- I'm new to this site, and just saw your reply. I am not sure you will actually see this reply due to the time past since your post. Please explain further on your theory...
